First Post

I created an account on this site because I am taking a Computer Science (CS) class in college and was asked to compare six different blog websites, including vox, jaiku, wordpress, blogger, tumblr, and pownce. This is the first site that I've looked at, but I really like the layout. The different icons make it easy to find your way around (designing my profile took me about five seconds), and there are ways to look at what others are writing about and prompts for your own entry each day. I'm not really into blogging and I've never had an online journal or anything similar before, so those prompts would be great to me started. It's very nice.

So far, I am not as impressed with Jaiku as I am with vox. The allowance for picture size is much smaller, and the entries are just little snippets... this seems more like a delayed IM service than anything else. I also had problems with the confirmation email and had to request a new one, and for some reason it wouldn't post my entry (the "post" icon was inactive). It frustrated me more than anything else.

Wordpress seems nicer than Jaiku, but it still doesn't have as many layout options as Vox and is a little more confusing. If you want anything extra for your blog, you have to go to other sites to get / download them. I guess, overall, this site it just not as new-user friendly as Vox.

Blogger seems pretty straightforward but, again, it's not as fancy as Vox. There are tags, but I'm not sure how to add a profile picture, there are only a few layouts to choose from, and it just seems less fancy.

Tumblr also seems pretty straightforward, but also lacks a lot of unique characteristics. I could probably make the other sites a lot more customized if I took the time to work on them, but I really don't want to spend that much time on my blog just making it look pretty and changing it to my personal preferences. I would much rather just have a variety of options to pick from, click a couple of buttons, and be done. Overall, I think I'm pretty sold on vox.
